Making Your Own Perfume

PerfumeProducing your own perfume is a great way of learning a new skill and also boost confidence and you will have fun when doing it. Some people make their own homemade or customized perfumes because it has a cheaper prices. You can also make you own perfume for the entire family or has a gift for a loved one or friend.

If you search in the internet on making perfume, you will soon find there are a many ways and different recipes to make it. But the most important thing you should think about before making any decisions, is what sort of perfumes it is you would like as your finished product. To know more about making your own perfume, check out the following tips.

Know what perfume you want to make
One of the first factors to consider is the kind of perfume and smell you want to make and which market you want to target.
  • PerfumeWould it be an eau de cologne, perfume concentrate or even an aftershave?
  • Do you want a general everyday office wear scent?
  • Do you prefer a sexy night-out perfume for the ladies?
  • a strong masculine scent for the men?
  • sweet and trendy for the hip, young market?
  • Does it have to be long lasting?
Remember that scents differ in their effects. Some induce calm and reduce stress, while some are made to rejuvenate. Some are made to seduce while some are just designed to refresh.

Perfume OilDetermine and prepare the ingredients
Next step is making a list of ingredients which needed to achieve that particular smell. Consider for possible combination. There are a lot of options you can choose from, such as patchouli, rose, and others.

If you already have a recipe that you would like to use, it may mean you do not need to bother experimenting with the ingredients you have. If you do not have your list of ingredients already prepared, then there are a couple things that you should know prior to making your list.
  • it is important that you experiment as much as you can.
  • perfume making is an art, and imagination and a great sense of smell will help you to overcome any lack of knowledge or experience.
  • there are 3 key ingredients you will need to produce perfume :
    - Essential Oil.
    - Pure Grain Oil
    - Water
The key ingredients include alcohol and fixatives. The best alcohol to use is one with great concentrations of ethyl alcohol. Fixatives meanwhile prolong the strength of a fragrance and hamper the rate of evaporation of a perfume. Among the usual fixatives are vanilla and sandalwood. Most of the ingredients used in perfumes can be bought at health stores or specialty stores. If you want a special ingredient that’s hard to find in your area, you can search on the Internet and have it delivered right to your house.

Perfume OilUse the best oils
The strength of a perfume depends on the percentage of essential oils that are diluted in alcohol and distilled water. Use droppers to allocate how many drops of oil you want to add. The more essential oils you use, the stronger the smell. But remember to use essential oils than fragrance oils because essential oils are natural and fragrance oils are synthetic. Also, use a base that will not degrade quickly, like jojoba oil or sweet almond oil, both of which are odorless.

There are 3 different types of oils, and these will ultimately influence the smell of perfume over time.
  1. Perfume IngredientsThe Base Oil (Base Notes) – produce scent that stays longest on the skin and usually added to the mixture first. Ex: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Mosses, Lichens, Ferns
  2. The Middle Oil (Middle Notes) – influences the smell of the perfume for quite some time, but not as long as the base notes does. Ex: Lemon Grass, Geranium, Neroli, Ylang-Ylang
  3. Top Oils (Top Notes) – added to the mixture after the middle notes, and may then be followed by some other substance which will help to bridge the scents together. Ex: Orchid, Rose, Bergamot,Lavender, Lemon, Lime.
Choose the equipmentThe equipment and tools use in making perfume can also affect the way it will turn out. For instance, it is better to use glass containers when mixing and storing perfumes because glass does not react with the ingredients.

Tips To Test The Perfume Before Buy

  • Perfume TestAlways try the fragrance on your skin before buy.
  • A fragrance sprayed on a cardboard piece of paper will give you an inkling of how it smells but not how it will smell on YOU.
  • Not all fragrances smell the exact same on each person coz different person has different body chemistries.
  • Spray the scent on the inside of the wrist and then allow it to warm and absorb into the skin.
  • Perfume TestYou can’t buy in decide which perfume you’re gonna buy hurried whether or not a scent is suitable for you or not. Instead, after applying it, give it half to an hour to make a proper determination.
  • You need to get attention and let your nose have a whiff of in every hour and see if the original scent retains its fragrance.
  • Once applied to your inner wrist never rub it on your other wrist as this can alter the scent of the fragrance tremendously.
  • It is best to test new scents one at a time. If you sample too many at once you will confuse your nose and wont know how to choose between fragrances.

Perfume : The Facts

Armani PerfumePerfume : Fact 1
60% - 90% of the cost of commercial perfume is marketing, not materials. The cost is not reflecting the cost of the materials. Most people think that designer perfume has all kinds of expensive and precious ingredients, and that's what makes it so expensive.

Why most modern perfumes have such a high price tag ? The answer is advertising!

PerfumeGlossy and popular magazine ads such as Cosmo, Bazaar , and other popular magazines. Primetime TV commercials featuring hired celebrities. Custom-designed boxes, fancy bottles, and glitzy packaging to make the perfume look expensive and attract the eye. Reseller's markup, which is usually twice the wholesale rate.

Perfume : Fact 2
It's now possible to chemically analyze and recreate most fragrances, including designer perfumes and it’s completely legal. It's impossible to copyright or patent a smell. The things you can reproduce with this technology is incredible.

BLV PerfumePerfume : Fact 3
Selling the materials for designer duplications used to be a tiny niche. There's a lot more demand due to designer fragrances' popularity with soap-makers and home users like us, so the products have gotten a lot better and more available. There are companies who specialize in making accurate designer duplication materials.

Apply Perfume For Longer Lasting Results

Apply PerfumeWhatever perfume you bought, expensive and branded name, but if you do not know the proper way to apply them, then the goal will be unmet. It is important to apply your perfume at the right places of the body so that it will last as long as it can for the whole day.

Fragrances react with heat so it’s important to apply perfume to pulse points like the elbow, wrist, back of knees and cleavage and remember, never rub your wrists together once you’ve applied perfume in these parts because doing so will just crush the scent.

SkinpH and Acidity Level of The Skin
High quality fragrance can lasts for about six to eight hours. But it depends on the type and pH level of the skin. pH determines how perfume or the ingredients react with body chemistry. The amount of acidity in skin or the pH level also varies in every person this is why perfumes work differently in each person.

Perfumes often last longer on oily skin because oily skin has more natural moisture that holds in the scent. How if I have dry skin? You may opt to use a fragrance-free moisturizer before applying your perfume or cologne to make the scent last longer. Another way, is you need to reapply your fragrance often. Dry skin doesn't retain scent as well as skin higher in oil content.

Apply PerfumeBest Part of Body to Apply
The best places to apply fragrance are between your breasts, around the ankles, the sides of the neck, and behind knees as these are your pulse points. Another tips for you ladies! Wear a small cotton ball sprayed with perfumes inside bras for a longer lasting scent. You can also spray lightly on your hair, it really help, although of course it will have to be really light lest you want your hair to react negatively.

You can also apply products that have the same scent. to layer on the fragrance and really lengthen the scent. For instance, if a certain scent comes in a lotion, perfume, and soap, then use all three before you go out to make sure you smell fabulous all throughout the day.

If you wear a watch or bracelet, be careful when spraying scents. The fragrance you apply could react to the leather or plastic strap or the gold or silver of the bracelet and dull the material so keep this point in mind when you apply your favorite fragrance.

Choose The Fragance
Fragrance PerfumeIf you’re a woman who wants a romantic and womanly scent, perfumes based on Ylang ylang are often ideal and great to use for dates. If you intend things to go a bit further, wear perfumes based on jasmine, patchouli, sandalwood, and rose which are known for their aphrodisiac properties. Jasmine has a very sensual fragrance that is said to have a great effect on the female hormones. Patchouli has a very strong musky scent that is often considered sexy. It can be overpowering sometimes on its own but when blended with other notes, it can be very seductive. Musk meanwhile is the powerful and potent masculine scent and is great to mix with other scents to add a touch of potent mystery.

Good ImpressionGood ImpressionA good rule of thumb for applying perfume is that less is more. This is particularly important to keep in mind if you are attending a social or business related event where there will be lots of people. Fragrance applied with a light hand to a pulse point is all that is really needed. Usually, big events equal lots of women and men wearing lots of other fragrances. There will be too much competition between fragrances may not be what you are striving for!

A great tip that is not well known for social event is to spray the outside of your hand instead of your wrist. This works because it allows the scent to defuse in an outward direction. It is airy. Another option is spraying the air and walk through the scent. Don’t worry about your outfit. It will not affect your clothing in any adverse manner.

Perfume Ethics

Perfume EthicsIt’s not right just because you like the fragrance you drench in your perfume. You may disturb other person. The sprayed perfume’s fragrance will follow you wherever you go, pierce every nostril in the vicinity and leave people choking on the smell for hours after! Try not to infringe on another's personal space.

Perfume Etiquette from Dr Tushar Guha, perfume expert gives some subtle hints on how to wear your perfume right :

  1. Choose perfume with care depending on the occasion.
  2. PerfumeYou need a little sophistication for a cocktail party, a meeting with one or two people, a day at the office, or a corporate event. You can go with a subtle scent that does not jerk an unsuspecting nostril out of its peaceful reverie.
  3. Go in for something stronger if you want to make a splash at a wedding, a party or on a night of clubbing, but don’t be too loud.
  4. We all want to be accepted and your choice of perfume should complement what you stand for.

Apply Perfume With Finesse

  • Apply PerfumeDon't splash the perfume all over your clothes. This will soil your clothes.
  • To make the fragrance sustain for a longer period, apply it behind earlobes, the upper sides of palms and on the right and left side of neck.
  • Don’t rub your wrists together after spraying on perfume. This will reduces the effect of the top layer of perfume.
  • If you don’t want the fragrance to smell to strong, you can do it in this way. Spray the perfume into the air and walk through it.
  • Apply PerfumeKeep the spray away from your nostril. This could lead to breathing trouble coz you may inhale the chemical ingredients in the perfume.
  • How much should the perfume spray? One round of application to all the pulse points will do. You could go in for round two if you perspire a lot.
  • You can also spray the perfume everywhere in your hair, handbag, cushions and sheets. But don’t spray it onto silk sari or tie, you will end up ruining your best silk!

Shopping Tips When Buy Perfume

Apply PerfumeSome people say don’t give a perfume as a gift for particular event. But, perfume may be a great gift. Why? Well, perfume is a very personal thing. You may smell one brand perfume smells really good, but other person may smell terrible. The same fragrance will smell different on two people as the body heat and inherent body odours are different. Like wise if you buy perfume, make sure you test your perfume on yourself and not your friend.

A fragrance will smell different several minutes after apply it, so give it some time. Don't rush into buying any perfume. The worst thing you can do is splurge on a perfume you are allergic to! To avoid that, apply a small amount on your wrist, the inner elbow or the back of your hand or arm. Wait for about an hour. If there is a reaction, you may allergy to the perfume.

How To Make Manicure Last For Long Time?

You can have your manicure looking great longer. Well, there are several tricks you should do. Try this following step, you're gonna get a great looking manicure.
  1. Keep nails short. Long nails are more prone to chipping and breaking than short. Try no more than a quarter inch past your fingertips.

  5. Apply polish in thin coats. Wipe one side of the nailbrush against the neck of the bottle to ensure excess polish is removed. Then sweep the brush up the length of the nail in thin coats. Thick coats of polish bubble and peel
  6. Allow polish to dry between coats. Manicure experts say that giving polish some time to dry before applying a second coat allows the first coat to form a better bond to the nail. The second coat will then bond to the first.
  7. Wrap polish onto nails. When applying polish, sweep a bit across the edge and under the nail tip.
  8. Apply topcoat daily. This step is very crucial! Top coat ensure your manicure lasts. Sweep on a protective topcoat daily to increase your nail polish's staying power.
  9. Toss old polish. Old nail polish is thick and gloppy. It doesn't have power for newer polish. If you can not bear to toss your favorite old bottle, add a bit of polish thinner to make it smoother.
  10. Protect hands from water. The polishing will lift off the nail if immerse hands in water too long. When washing dishes, remember always use rubber gloves and keep showers to a quick 10-15 minutes.

How to Give Yourself a French Manicure?
Steps :
  1. From daytime denim to evening elegance, the popular white-tipped look will never leave you wondering whether your polish complements your outfit.
  2. Pick up the tools at drugs store or beauty supply center : base/top coat, tip guide strips, neutral polish and white polish. Neutral polishes are very pale, sheer shades with a pink, beige or peach cast. Choose the kit which offer everything in one box.
  3. Clip, file and shape your nails. Tend to your cuticles, then wash and dry your nails completely. Apply the base/top coat and let it dry.
  4. Peel off a guide strip and affix it below the tip of a nail, following its natural curve. The guide will allow you to paint an even white tip with ease and precision.
  5. Decide where to place the guide strips based on the length of your nails. Usually, the longer the nail, the longer the white tip should be. Make sure that the arch of the guide is smooth and rounded and that the tip lengths are all relatively consistent.
  6. Paint each nail tip white, extending the brush stroke from the top of the guide to the end of the nail. Take care not to get any white polish on the body of the nail below the guide. Let the tips dry.
  7. Remove all the guides. Dissolve leftover adhesive by rubbing it gently with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
  8. Apply two coats of the neutral polish, letting the first coat dry before the second application. Finish with a thin layer of base/top coat.
