Case for any complications for this procedure is rare. When they occur they may include skin discoloration, pigmentation changing, burning, scarring and virus infection. One thing you should know, laser skin resurfacing does not stop the aging process. That’s why, wrinkles, discoloration, and other imperfections can reappear throughout your lifetime.
Pigmentation Changing
Semi-permanent or permanent skin lightening may occur in the treated areas. This is unpredictable and hard to treat without permanent tattooing of the skin. The skin may also become hyperpigmented (darker) immediately following the surgery. Often this darkening treats itself, lightening on its own or responding to various skin care regimens that include hydroquinone (a bleaching crème) and alpha hydroxy (fruit) acids.
Scarring
Laser skin resurfacing may not sufficiently tighten the skin, and surgical excision may be necessary to achieve the results desired. It is most often worthwhile the try to perform laser procedure first to avoid the possibility of scarring, so do not be dismayed if a secondary procedure is necessary.
Burns and Injuries
Heat from the laser may cause burns or injuries. To reduce the risks involved in this procedure, carefully follow all of your surgeon’s instructions, both before and after surgery.

Aftercare for Laser Skin Resurfacing

If a bandage was applied after your procedure, it may be changed with a the new one after a day or two. After about a week, your bandage will be removed, and a thin layer of ointment may be applied to your skin. Some physician’s use a tape that retains moisture to bandage the treated area. Because this bandage must remain dry, you will not be able to shower normally until the bandages are removed.
At this stage your surgeon will provide instructions on how to gently wash and care for your healing skin.

During this phase of healing, it is very important that you not pick the crusts off the treated area, or scarring may result. Most patients are free of crusts after 10 days, but redness may persist for several weeks. Make-up can be applied approximately two weeks after the procedure to cover-up the redness.

After laser resurfacing, daily sunscreen is highly recommended to protect the sensitive new skin from sun exposure. Ask your doctor to recommend a sun block with both UVA and UVB protection, and apply it daily. If resurfacing was done around your eyes, you should use sunglasses.

The Laser Skin Resurfacing Procedure

Your doctor may perform laser skin resurfacing in the office, an outpatient surgery center, or a hospital. First, the doctor, or an assistant, will cleanse your face to remove oils from the skin. Antibiotic is then applied to kill bacteria.
Typically you would receive local anesthesia, while you are sedated but awake; however, you might receive general anesthesia for treatment of deeper layers of the skin. To treat small areas of the skins surface, your physician will most likely use a local anesthetic with or without an oral sedative. For complete facial resurfacing, physicians most commonly use intravenous sedation or a general anesthesia with monitoring of your ECG, breathing and other vitals signs. Even patients who remain awake during the procedure report feeling only minimal discomfort. After the surgery you feel only mild to moderate pain.

the patient’s eyes are covered to protect them from the laser light. The length of the procedure depends upon the size of the area the patient wishes to have treated. A partial facial skin resurfacing can take as little as half an hour; a full resurfacing can take up to two hours.
A beam of light from a microphone-shaped instrument is passed over the skin to vaporize the outer layers of damaged skin. The laser can be programmed for varied levels of penetration. The doctor moves the laser precisely over the area of skin requiring treatment. Depending on the depth of the wrinkle, scar, or discoloration, the laser may be moved over the area repeatedly.

The procedure may be performed in two or more sessions to penetrate deeper areas, but one procedure is usually enough.

It called permanent because the coloring is set and cannot be washed off. However, fading can occur, so periodic maintenance is required. Consider this and all other aspects when choosing a technician. Some factors that can negatively influence the longevity of these cosmetics are :
he sun and UV rays and tanning booths
- Some drugs
- Excessively dry skin
- Smoking
- Alpha- hydroxy, Retin-A, and glycolic acids. These substances slough away top layers of skin and eventually the implants will be affected.
These cosmetic procedures are commonly known as para-medical. If work is performed in a physician's office or in specialized clinics the rates may be higher. However, the cost should not be the most important issue but rather the training and skill of the technician and the client’s confidence.
How Long Does It Take?
It will generally take 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours with much less time for the follow-up.
Is It Painful?
Of course this procedure is invasive so there may be some discomfort but will vary according to the individual and to the skills of the technician. If you want to reduce or remove the pain, you can ask the beautician/doctor to apply topical anaesthetic. There may be a small amount of bleeding but the area is washed at the end of the process and antiseptic cream applied.

Visit the location where this is to be done. Look for all materials including needles, machine parts and supplies to be kept in a sanitary manner. Gloves should be worn, workers clean and neat, fresh drapery used for the patient and the room tidy and free from any contaminants.

Although this type of cosmetics is permanent, there is a flexibility to change color and shape somewhat, depending on the expertise of the technician. There are some methods for removing tattoos including laser treatments, abrasion, and surgery. But there are side issues such as many visits, cost and possibly a change of color to a less desirable shade.
Take note that colors initially will appear darker but will lighten during the healing which takes about a week or longer depending on the individual and the procedure.

The Magic Stylo pen is a perfect alternative or it can be used in addition to the permanent cosmetics for a ?touch up?. It is a long lasting (8 ? 24 hours) semi-permanent pigment and smudge-proof.
Be sure to apply to dry and clean skin. Always cap the pen after each use. Apply to extend lips and use before lipstick. Apply to eyebrows to create a natural look. Will clog around eye shadow, lotions, and lipsticks if not used correctly. If the pen clogs, gently clean the tip with a small alcohol pad. Then, give a little shake for the liquid to flow to the tip again. It soaks into the skin on top thus creating a more natural look. It can be removed easily with any makeup remover. Check out brand names such as Revlon, Max Factor and Clinique who advertise lasting performance cosmetics.
